Nottinghamshire Today January 2012 Homes and Gardens A well-deserved double celebration was enjoyed by East Drayton-based interior design company, Jamie Hempsall Ltd, as they won two prizes at the prestigious UK Property Awards. Held at The Lancaster London Hotel at Hyde Park, the Awards are hotly-contested and widely-coveted as a benchmark of success and achievement in the industry.
Jamie Hempsall Ltd not only won Best Leisure Interior for Nottinghamshire with their project at Barkers Restaurant at Clumber Park, but their design also went on to beat all other competition to win Best Leisure Interior for the UK. Richard Bond, Managing Director, said, "We are still reeling from the excitement of it all and the realisation that a local company and a local project have been judged to be the best in the UK. There was some sensational competition which makes it an even greater accolade for us." "We were approached last year to develop the design for the National Trust's first-ever fine dining restaurant. Located in an idyllic setting at the heart of Clumber Park, Barkers Restaurant, serves delicious cuisine in historic surroundings.
It is situated within the former Head Gardener's House, overlooking the Walled Kitchen Garden. The seasonal menu uses local ingredients, many grown at the site too." Jamie Hempsall, Design Director adds: "We created a classic, contemporary design that feels as though you have been invited into someone's rather comfortable home. It was a brave concept for the National Trust team who briefed us not to develop a historic re-creation. We used sumptuous fabrics and wallpapers from British designers such as Osborne & Little, Zoffany and Designers Guild to create a luxurious, yet warm, welcoming feel. There are a few little design surprises about the place, which we have been pleased to hear from the staff receive gasps of delight".
Jamie Hempsall Ltd have won numerous awards since being established 18 years ago, in recognition of their commercial and domestic commissions throughout the UK. Beth Dawson, General Manager for the National Trust in Nottinghamshire said: "Barkers has breathed new life into this elegant former Head Gardener's house and is a wonderful celebration of how contemporary design can enhance our built heritage. All the work at Barkers has been carried out by local contractors and showcases the best of craftsmanship. This award is testimony that we have created something special for everyone".
