Kitchen - Heart of the Home - Award Winning

This Award Winning Kitchen design came about as our Client required the main access to be at the rear of their house. Therefore, this was the main area that would greet people on arrival and needed to create an instant impact and set the tone for the home; as well as providing food preparation areas & creating a space for informal dining to keep the family together.

Our concept was to create a warm “Heart of the Home” full of natural textures and colours to promote the feel of mother earth, but to retain a modern feel. Dark, rich colours and natural finishes were used to promote the feeling of warmth and belonging and curved edges emphasise one naturally flowing space, rather than delineated areas.

It was important to have large, integrated preparation areas where the cook could remain in contact with casual diners and we included a TV (housed in natural bamboo) to particularly allow children to stay in the same room as parents creating a meal. The large dining table serves a dual purpose as a “homework” area.

We used dark bronze Amtico flooring to promote a modern feel and ensure easy maintenance of cooking spillages or dirt from outside. Whilst the White & Grey Parapan doors on the units maximise light and keep the feeling of calm. Bamboo and wood finishes help introduce natural, sustainable products and establish the family’s eco-credentials. Leather look stone-washed granite provides a warm, sensual and natural feel to the work tops.

The rear wall houses a bank of cooking units (incl microwave, steam cooker, back-up oven and coffee maker). The design is symmetrical and provides maximum flexibility for the householder. We created a new exit from the kitchen through this wall to provide direct access to the dining room.

The room features high-level lighting designed to provide maximum light throughout the day and evening as the area suffers from poor natural daylight.

Dramatic, spotty full length curtains to add warmth to the room and
further inject feeling of youth and vibrancy.

The adjoining larder and home office areas provide addition storage and working areas for the home-maker with a consistent design feel.
