Multi- Design Award Winning National Trust Restaurant - Clumber Park

We were honoured that the National Trust asked us to undertake the refurbishment of the former Head Gardeners House at Clumber Park. A project for which we have won both Best Leisure Interior - Nottinghamshire and Best UK Leisure Interior in the UK Property Awards 2011.

The Edwardian house had been rented for many years as a domestic dwelling and some period features had been lost as a result. The Trust asked us to convert it into their first ever fine dining restaurant (also providing additional rooms to be available for conferences or private dining).

Our remit was to avoid a period reproduction, but to design a venue that felt as if you were being invited into someone's home.

We worked with the National Trust on all aspects of the project advising on everything from floor tiles to hand wash; liaising with and advising all key trades throughout the project. This even extended to working with the incredible garden team to ensure that the inside designed flowed with the external views and choosing exterior furniture.

Our design includes contemporary wall-coverings and soft-furnishings that hint at antiquity, aiming to create a home that feels it has evolved from the period 1890 to 1930.

The dining and conference chairs have been especially designed for the project to ensure that diners and conference attendees can sit comfortably for many hours. The soft coverings are actually incredibly hard-wearing and the reverse fabrics hint at luxury.

Each room has been designed to give a different ambience that will allow repeat diners to opt for their favourite salon and to give conference attendees quieter/contemplative areas that are none the less a special treat away from a standard conference venue.

The WCs have been designed to provide a secret surprise and we have been rewarded with some amazed gasps of delight.

We have dressed Barkers restaurant with antiques sourced from around the UK and refurbished antique European chandeliers.

The end result has thrilled the client and public alike.
